How much does LVP flooring cost installed in Houston with a Black Friday sale? 2026 math for 1,000 sq ft

By the Homestimo team ·

Open living room in a one-story suburban home with a new light oak-tone vinyl plank floor running into the hallway, white baseboards with quarter round, a few plain unlabeled flooring cartons stacked by the wall, soft morning light
New LVP running through the main living areas, the kind of 1,000 sq ft job priced below. Illustration, not a specific Houston home.

In the Houston area, 1,000 sq ft of luxury vinyl plank costs about $4,900–$9,300 installed with the old carpet torn out, and only about $2,350–$5,250 of that is planks and supplies. A Black Friday sale of 20% off the planks therefore saves roughly $450–$1,050, while the $2,550–$4,050 for tear-out and installation stays the same.

Black Friday falls on Nov. 27 this year, and flooring ads will quote a price per square foot of plank. That number is not what a floor costs. On a typical Houston-area LVP job about half the bill is labor, tear-out and trim, and no sale touches it. Below we turn sale prices into installed prices with Homestimo's Harris County pricing, so you can tell a real saving from a small one.

What a plank sale takes off 1,000 sq ft

A 1,000 sq ft job is roughly the living areas of a 2,000 sq ft one-story home, or the downstairs of many two-stories. We priced it with the old carpet torn out and hauled away, mid-range LVP, quarter round at the walls and transitions at doorways, then applied the discount to the materials side only.

SaleYou saveInstalled
None$0$4,900–9,300
10% off$250–500$4,650–8,800
20% off$450–1,050$4,450–8,250
30% off$700–1,600$4,200–7,750

Harris County, 1,000 sq ft of floor, carpet removed. Materials (planks with about 8% extra for cuts, 8.25% sales tax, supplies) $2,350–$5,250; tear-out, installation, quarter round and transitions $2,550–$4,050. Discount applied to materials only. Rounded to $50.

The gap between a low and a high installation price on this job is about $1,500. That is more than a 20% plank sale saves even on the costliest planks in this range, so comparing two or three installers' labor prices can be worth as much as the sale.

Turn an advertised price per square foot into an installed price

To compare a sale ad with an installed quote, put both in the same unit. Add about 8% for cuts and 8.25% sales tax to the plank price, then add installation. With carpet tear-out, quarter round and transitions, installation runs about $2.55–$4.05 per square foot of floor in Harris County; on a floor that is already bare, about $2.05–$3.15.

Ad pricePlanks*Installed
$1.49$1.75$4.30–5.80
$1.99$2.35$4.90–6.40
$2.99$3.50$6.05–7.55
$3.99$4.65$7.20–8.70

All per square foot of floor. *Planks = ad price plus about 8% extra for cuts and 8.25% sales tax. Installed = planks plus carpet tear-out, installation, quarter round and transitions. Underlayment is extra if the plank has no attached pad.

Read the other way: a quote of about $6 per square foot installed over old carpet in Houston usually means planks in the $1.99–$2.99 range. If a store's "installed" package comes in well under the matching row, ask what was left out (tear-out, transitions, moving furniture). Over old tile the installation side roughly doubles, to about $4.05–$6.75 per square foot, so a plank sale matters even less.

Where a sale matters more: laminate vs. engineered wood

The same 20% off is worth more on a costlier floor. For 1,000 sq ft over a bare floor in Harris County:

So a deal on engineered wood can close part of the gap with LVP, but it rarely closes all of it: even at 30% off, engineered wood stays above full-price LVP on the same floor.

Example: the downstairs of a 2,400 sq ft two-story

A common Houston-area project: replace the carpet on the first floor of a 2,400 sq ft two-story (about 1,200 sq ft of floor) plus 14 carpeted stairs, keeping the baseboards and adding quarter round. Priced with the Homestimo engine on Nov. 7, 2026:

The stairs alone add about $900–$1,500 in labor, and no plank sale changes that. Replacing the baseboards instead of adding quarter round adds more; our Houston LVP installation cost guide lists the extras by area.

Six checks before you buy planks on sale

  1. Was the "before" price real? Under the FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing, a former price is a fair comparison only if the product was openly and actively offered at that price for a reasonably substantial period. Check what the same plank cost a few weeks ago.
  2. Buy the whole job at once. Order the measured area plus extra for cuts (our prices assume about 8%; diagonal or herringbone layouts need more). A few cartons short after the sale ends means paying full price, or hunting for the same plank later.
  3. Ask your installer first. Find out whether the labor price changes when you supply the planks, and whether underlayment, transitions and quarter round are on your list or theirs.
  4. Open and check cartons before install day. One maker's installation guide (QEP/Kraus) tells installers to examine color, finish and quality before installing, and says installed flooring is considered accepted by the installer and the owner.
  5. Confirm the plank suits a slab. Many Houston homes sit on a concrete slab. Plank makers set moisture limits for slabs (for example COREtec and Karndean), so read the guide for the plank on sale, not a different one.
  6. Know the return rules. Ask whether unopened cartons can be returned after the sale, and how long you have. Leftover full cartons are worth keeping only if you would use them for repairs.

Timing still matters: a sale the day after Thanksgiving helps only if you install after the holiday. If you want floors in before guests arrive, our LVP-before-Thanksgiving plan works back from Nov. 26, and the Houston pre-holiday refresh costs cover paint and floors together. Price your own floor

Your square footage, old floor and stairs set the labor side, and that is the part a sale cannot touch. Enter your address in the free flooring estimate: it reads your home's size from county records, lets you set the area, old floor and stairs, and shows labor and materials separately, so you can see exactly what a discount on the planks is worth. From the same page you can get quotes from flooring installers in your ZIP. Already have an installed quote? Quote Compare checks it against a fair range for your home.

How we got these numbers

Prices: Homestimo estimate engine, Harris County pricing, run Nov. 7, 2026 for the areas shown (luxury vinyl plank, laminate and engineered wood; old floor none, carpet or tile; quarter round kept; 14 stairs in the example). Materials include planks with about 8% extra for cuts, 8.25% sales tax and supplies; labor includes tear-out and haul-away where stated, installation, quarter round and transitions. Per-square-foot rows add the stated plank price to the engine's labor range. Discounts are applied to the materials total only and rounded to $50; they are illustrations, not quoted sales. Estimates are planning ranges, not contractor quotes; slab condition, leveling, layout and the plank you choose change the price.

Frequently asked questions

How much does 1,000 sq ft of LVP cost installed in Houston?

About $4,400 to $8,400 on a bare, ready floor, or $4,900 to $9,300 if old carpet has to be torn out first (2026 planning ranges, planks, sales tax, installation, quarter round and transitions included).

How much does a Black Friday flooring sale actually save?

Only the materials side is discounted. On 1,000 sq ft of LVP in the Houston area, 10% off the planks saves about $250 to $500, 20% off about $450 to $1,050 and 30% off about $700 to $1,600. Installation and tear-out cost the same.

What does $1.99 per square foot LVP cost installed?

It is a plank price, not an installed price. With about 8% extra for cuts and 8.25% Houston-area sales tax, $1.99 planks come to about $2.35 per square foot of floor; adding carpet tear-out and installation makes it about $4.90 to $6.40 per square foot installed.

Will an installer put in flooring I bought on sale?

Ask before you buy: whether the labor price changes when you supply the planks, whether underlayment, transitions and quarter round are yours to buy too, and who covers a defective plank once it is installed.

Prices are 2026 planning ranges from Homestimo's pricing model for Harris County (mid-range LVP with about 8% extra for cuts and 8.25% sales tax, installation, quarter round and transitions), run Nov. 7, 2026. Sale percentages are illustrations, not quoted sales. Pricing rules from the FTC's Guides Against Deceptive Pricing; inspection and slab rules from the manufacturer installation guides linked above (checked November 2026). Not contractor quotes or an on-site inspection; your floor, slab and plank change the price.
